Tomales Bay -- a kayaking paradise
Located in the beautiful Point Reyes National Seashore, Tomales Bay is a magical wilderness haven for kayakers. This Bay is lined with remote beaches, lagoons and brushy hillsides which are a delight to explore both by boat and on foot.
A diversity of wildlife call Tomales Bay home. As your kayak glides across the water, you may hear distant cries of tule elk wandering the forested hills above the Bay. A harbor seal may pop its head out of the water and surprise you only a few feet away from your kayak. As you paddle along, an osprey, pelican or kingfisher may dive for their lunch right before your eyes!
The Bay's clean water and extensive eelgrass beds provide habitat for spawning Pacific herring, 45 species of fish, harbor seals, jellyfish and sea stars. Many species of birds also inhabit Tomales Bay, including many rare ducks and over 20,000 wintering shorebirds and waterfowl such as loons, grebes, geese and cormorants among others.
